Jim Rumbaugh - Gold 3 Lead, Bronze 2 Lead

Coach Jim began coaching with NCAP in 2021. He attended the University of Tennessee and was selected as team captain during his last two years on the swim team. Jim was a six-time All-American, NCAA finalist, and an American Record holder in the 200 Medley Relay. Jim started his coaching career at Dynamo Swim Club in Atlanta, Georgia and worked his way from an age group coach to a national-level senior coach, where he had his first Junior  National qualifier and his first National Junior Team member. Dynamo gave Jim the opportunity to develop dozens of national-level athletes and in his last two seasons with the club, the team won the 18 & Under National Club Championships.

After leaving  Dynamo, Jim and his wife moved to the Santa Barbara area, where he took over a small team. The team quickly grew to over 150 athletes. It was here that Jim learned about how to run a business and how to develop a winning coaching staff and team. After his stint in  California, he was offered an assistant coaching job at the University of Tennessee, where he worked with IM and 200 specialist athletes. Jim produced numerous Southeastern  Conference finalists and NCAA qualifiers. During his fourth year at UT, he was named the  Head Coach of Pilot Aquatics (now Tennessee Aquatics). Pilot was a National Club  Excellence Gold Medal team and consistently produced national-level athletes. In his five years at Pilot, the club had one swimmer named to the National Junior World team (where he broke two World Junior Records), four swimmers selected to attend the National Select  Camp, three swimmers selected to attend the National Open Water Select Camp and dozens of Scholastic All-Americans. They also had six swimmers earn “All Time Top 100”  standards, three of which were in the men’s 400 freestyle.

Having been away for so long and wanting to be closer to family, Jim and his wife moved to the DC area, where he took a job with SNOW Swimming. He took on this new challenge because it gave him the opportunity to work with age-group kids again. The team consistently progressed each year, moving from a Senior Sectional level program to a National Club Excellence Silver  Medal club. His younger swimmers broke dozens of team records and had fun training together. He enjoyed seeing the progress of each level of athlete, from his 8 & Unders to all the swimmers he helped earn college scholarships.

He also was a teacher at St. Paul VI Catholic High School, serving as  the head coach of the swimming and diving program for ten seasons. In addition to those  roles, Bob spent many summers coaching a variety of summer league teams and served as a  coach/counselor for the swimming camp at the University of Notre Dame.
