About Ashburn

NCAP is a year-round competitive swim team for swimmers of all ages and abilities. We  teach swimming with the goal of being balanced and efficient in the water. As a coaching  staff, we work cooperatively using similar drills to develop technique consistently  throughout the program. We believe in creating a hardworking and competitive family  dedicated to developing a strong sense of respect, determination, integrity, positivity and  commitment in and out of the pool. Our professional staff is devoted to creating a positive,  enriching environment for all our athletes.

Coaching Staff

Jessica Fry-Mack - Head Coach, Gold 1 Lead (Ashburn/Claude Moore)

Coach Jessica began coaching at NCAP in the summer of 2009 and has been the Head Coach at  Claude Moore since 2016. She has an extensive swimming background dating back to her local age group program in Michigan and then through high school, college, and master’s programs. Jessica has almost thirty years of coaching experience, working with summer league, high school, triathlon, Special Olympic, and USA club teams in Michigan and the  Northern Virginia area. She has worked with swimmers ranging from beginners to Olympic  Trials qualifiers and is ASCA Level 4 certified.

Jessica has coached many USA Swimming and  PVS Top-10 and Top-20, All Time Top 100, and 18 & Under World 100 athletes over the years, including National Age Group Record breakers, and has had multiple swimmers invited to and attend a variety of Select Camps. Her athletes have gone on to D1, D2 and D3  colleges and universities and have earned many accolades over the years, including the PVS  Outstanding Athlete of the Year, PVS Scholar Athlete Award, USA Swimming Scholastic All America, NISCA All-America, All-LoCo Athlete of the Year, First Team and Honorable  Mention, WaPo All-Met First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention, etc. Jessica has also been selected to the coaching staff for USA Swimming’s Eastern Zone Select Camp,  Eastern Zone Diversity Select Camp, National Select Camp, National Diversity Select Camp and was chosen to serve as Head Coach of the Western Zone Select Camp in May of 2022  and as Head Coach of the Western Zone Diversity Select Camp before it was cancelled due to the pandemic. She served a two-year term on the Potomac Valley Swimming Board as  Senior Coaches Representative and has spent the last several years on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Board and recently served as the PVS DEI Chair for the 2021-2023 term.  

Coach Jessica lives in Lovettsville with her husband, Joe, and their seven cats. In her free time, she enjoys hiking/walking, reading, crocheting, building Lego sets, traveling and spending time with family.  

Coach Shannon has been with NCAP Claude Moore since 2010. She has been a lifelong  swimmer, competing locally before attending The University of Mary Washington, where  she continued swimming and became a valuable part of the team. Shannon has several  years of coaching experience, dating back to the existence of Solotar Swim Team and has  worked with swimmers ranging from beginners to Olympic Trial qualifiers. She has also  served as Head Coach of the ODSL Broadlands Piranhas, assistant coach for the  Willowsford Waves and most recently as Head Coach of the Brambleton Bettas. 

Shannon McConagha - Gold 2 Lead

Tim Whelan - Bronze 1 and Bronze 2 Lead

Coach Tim started with NCAP in the fall of 2015. He currently coaches Bronze 1 and Bronze  2, but has coached or assisted with most of the groups at the Claude Moore site in his time  with the club. Tim grew up swimming in New Jersey, graduating from Rutgers University,  where he was a member of the men's swim team. Prior to joining NCAP, he coached with  Morris County Swim Club in New Jersey and at the Anthony Bowen YMCA in DC, starting  and coaching the U.S. Masters Swimming team at that Y. Tim has also been Head Coach for  summer league teams in the ODSL, first for the Loudoun Valley Estates Torpedoes and  Willowsford South Waves and most recently the Hartland Hurricanes. Tim has coached multiple PVS Champions and High Point winners, NCSA Age Group and Zone Qualifiers, PVS  and NCSA Age Group Championship finalists, and NCAP and ODSL Record Holders. He also swims for the Shim Team in his spare time.

Sharon Whelan - Silver 2 Lead, Bronze 3 Lead, Homeschool Lead (Ashburn / Claude Moore)

Coach Sharon started coaching with NCAP in 2022. She has been involved as a swim  instructor and coach for over seventeen years and hopes to continue sharing her passion  for the sport for many more years to come. Coach Sharon is entering her eleventh season  coaching for USA Swimming; during this time, she has had the opportunity to work with  various developmental, middle and high school groups. She looks forward to building off  the current successes of this program and to working relentlessly with coaches, athletes  and parents to uphold our team values and create an empowering culture that provides  meaningful experiences. Sharon holds Red Cross WSI Certification and is a Level 3 ASCA  Certified Coach. She lives in Leesburg with her husband and has three children. 

Jo Robson - Silver 3

Coach Jo joins NCAP with over six years of experience teaching swimmers of all ages and skill levels. For the past two years, she has worked full-time in swim instruction at Ida Lee Recreation Center and Dulles South Recreation Center. Jo began swimming competitively at the age of five and spent ten consecutive summers on summer swim teams, developing a lifelong passion for the sport. Her teaching background includes both private and group lessons, with a strong emphasis on technical development, stroke refinement and water safety. Over the past year, Jo has served as the middle school swim coach at Loudoun Country Day School and she also teaches adaptive aquatics, working with swimmers with a range of physical, cognitive and sensory needs. 

Outside of the pool, Jo is an accomplished athlete who played NCAA Division III field hockey at Washington and Jefferson College and Washington College. She also coached girls’ field hockey teams from the U10 to U19 levels throughout high school and college. Jo holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Psychology and Sociology from Washington College and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at Shenandoah University. Jo believes deeply in the transformative power of athletics and finds great fulfillment in helping others build confidence and achieve their full potential through sport.
