Coaching Staff
Kelly Rose McCullough - Tysons Head Age Group Coach, Silver 1, Bronze 1, Gold Prep Assistant
Coach Kelly Rose joined the staff of NCAP Tysons in September of 2017 and is beginning her 7th season with the team. She is the lead coach of the Silver 1 and Gold Prep groups, while also assisting with Gold AM.
Kelly Rose graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2011 with a degree in Business Administration—Management and a minor in Accounting. While attending UNI, she was named team captain her Senior year and specialized in distance freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke during her 4 years of competition. Upon graduation from college, she went to work for the Snowfox Swim Team in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. During her 4 years with Snowfox, she became the Head Age Group Coach and was the Administrative Assistant to the Board of Directors.
Kelly also served as the Head All-Stars Coach (2013 and 2015) and the Head Zones Coach (2012-2014) for Team South Dakota. Kelly Rose began coaching with The Fish during the summer of 2015. She served as the Head Coach of the Mini Fish, assisted with the other age groups, and performed many of the administrative responsibilities.
Coach Kelly Rose was named as one of the Top 50 Age Group Coaches in the nation for the 2022-2023 season awarded by the American Swimming Coaches Association and Fitter and Faster. During the past several summers, Kelly Rose has enjoyed coaching in the NVSL with Langley, Highlands, and Hunter Mill. She continues to love chasing the black line as much as possible and has participated in the 4.4 mile Chesapeake Bay Swim three times.
Jake Ball - Gold 2, Silver 1 at Marymount
Jake has been with NCAP Marymount since the fall of 2021 where he specializes with athletes ages 11-14. He has 10 years of coaching experience from learn-to-swim through high school and college level swimming. Jake has coached athletes who have achieved Age Group, Sectional, and Futures time standards as well as coached himself to the 2021 US Trials. Outside of being the lead coach for Silver 1 and Gold 2, Jake is also an assistant coach for Gold 1 and Marymount’s varsity swim program as well as a coach for a NVSL Division 1 summer league team.
Originally from Stafford, VA, Jake was a graduate student at George Mason University where he earned a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems while helping the men’s swim team earn their first conference title. Prior to Mason, Jake attended Denison University where he earned a degree in Environmental Studies and Geosciences as well as two national titles and four All-American honors. When not on deck, Jake likes to spend his time working out, playing Ultimate Frisbee, and playing video games.
Andrew Koons - Lead Gold Prep, Silver 2
Andrew Koons is Northern Virginia native and a graduate of The College of William & Mary, where he spent his final year studying to be a High School Science teacher. After 7 years teaching biology and environmental science in Loudoun and Fairfax counties, in June of 2023 he hung up his lab goggles to be a full-time swim coach. Andrew looks forward to meeting all the NCAP Tysons families and is excited to help every swimmer work towards their goals both in and out of the pool!
After coaching for 757swim in grad school, Andrew coached for York Swim Club for 6 years, the last of which was full time. He’s coached in the NVSL since he was 15 and is currently the Head Coach of High Point Pool in Falls Church. He’s also helped coach at three Virginia High Schools and is currently the Head Swim & Dive Coach at Madison High School in Vienna. In his free time, Andrew spends more time at the pool as a Masters swimmer, but also enjoys working out at a CrossFit gym and attending concerts.
Kara McElveen - Bronze 2
Coach Kara began coaching with Nation's Capital Swim Club in 1999. She has also coached in local summer leagues (including the NVSL, CSL, and DCCL) since the late 90s. Most recently, she was the Head Coach for the Great Falls Rapids summer swim team for the 2016-2018 seasons. In addition to coaching, she is an Instructional Coach at Westlawn Elementary in Fairfax County. When not at the pool or school, Coach Kara spends time with her husband and 2 children. Coach Kara will be coaching Bronze 2 this season.
Jessica Cruzado - Bronze 1 Assistant, Bronze 2 Assistant
Coach Jessica has been coaching with NCAP for 5 years. She grew up in the area, swimming for NVSL and PVS through high school, graduating from William & Mary in 2019 with a B.S. in Chemistry and Computer Science. Coach Jessica coaches Bronze 2 and assists with Gold Prep and is also the Swim School and Developmental Director for NCAP Marymount. She's also an Assistant Coach for The Potomac School's Varsity swim team and the Head Coach for the Herndon Hammerheads during the summer.
