The NCAP Swim School has been serving the DC community for over 35 years. Offering a variety of classes and levels, we introduce children to the water while teaching the fundamentals of freestyle and backstroke.

Program Overview

Group Lessons

30-minute lessons
For children 3-8 years of age.

Group Level Descriptions

Private Lessons

30-minute lessons | No hour-long options
For children 3-13 years of age.
Semi-private lessons are not offered.

NCAP Swim School is primarily a group-lesson-based program. We offer a limited selection of private lessons each session. Since our program opens enrollment early to current families, private lessons are typically fully booked before we open to the public. You are welcome to contact us about potential private lesson openings, but please know we encourage new families to consider our group lesson first for a better chance of joining our program.

Waitlist FAQs

  • If you only see an option to waitlist your swimmer for a class, that likely means the class is full and is waitlist-only.

  • If you can’t find a waitlist for a specific class, the waitlist is likely already full and I recommend emailing me directly to express interest in joining the class.

  • We do move lots of swimmers off the waitlist every session. We do our best to move swimmers off the waitlist before the session starts but will keep accommodating waitlist swimmers until late Febuary of 2026. We can not guarantee when or if your child will move off the waitlist.

  • You can waitlist for as many classes as you’d like, but please only waitlist for one group class level (the appropriate level for your swimmer).

  • If we get an opening for your swimmer, we will reach out to you via email and offer you the class spot. We will typically hold the opening for you for 24 hours. If we do not hear back or if you decline, we move to the next swimmer on the list. We do not automatically move swimmers off the waitlist and into a class or charge your card without written permission.

  • There is no charge to join the waitlist for a class. Our system requires a payment method to create an account, but we do not charge the card without permission.

AU Swim School Director

Taylor Whittington

Taylor has been with NCAP’s Swim School since 2018. She started as a swim instructor while studying at American University and was promoted to Deck Manager and Private Lessons Coordinator before taking over as the Director in May of 2021. Taylor also serves as NCAP’s Digital Content Manager.

Taylor grew up playing waterpolo and swimming on school, club, and summer league teams in her hometown of Princeton, New Jersey. She was inspired by her mom’s passion for water safety and competitive swimming at a young age. Taylor enjoys providing her swimmers a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment in which to grow their skills. She loves to create personal connections with our Swim School families and make each child feel valued when they come to the pool. Taylor has completed the United States Swim School Association’s Special Abilities and Preschool Insturctor certifications.

Taylor graduated from American University in 2021 with degrees in Film and Gender Studies. Her favorite places to swim are Deep Creek Lake and Lake Tahoe. She enjoys crafting, rock climbing, exploring National Parks, and watching movies with her cat, Toast.
